Peter Warm BSc C Eng MCIBSE MInstE MSLL: Energy and Services Consultant
Born:1953
Education: BSc Mechanical Engineering Leeds University (1975), Research student/Consultant at the Open University Energy Research Group (1976/83) .
From 1983-85 Peter was a founder member of Energy Advisory Services Ltd, developing practical microcomputer
implementations of energy predictions such as the BREDEM modelling as currently used in SAP. In 1986 he formed
his own practice as a freelance Energy and Environmental Engineer.
Peter is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of CIBSE and the Institute of Energy. He was a founding member and the former chair of the AECB.
Most of his work has been concerned with energy, where he has carried out Energy Survey Reports from Schools to Heavy Industry, Railway Stations to Leisure Centres, and including Training/Motivation Seminars for School Caretakers, Hospital Architects and Restaurant Managers.
After this period his interests expanded to the wider environmental issues and how buildings can be designed, used and refurbished to minimise negative impacts on the environment and the occupants.
Recently he has focussed on two areas: How to practically build very well insulated and airtight buildings that need very little heating. This has involved him in a study and calculation of thermal bridges, Passivhaus concepts, and MVHR systems.
His second area of interest is what we should do with our existing 20 million odd uninsulated buildings, ie most of the stock. He was joint author with Richard Oxley of the CIBSE guide to building services for historic buildings and is concerned about practical methods of upgrading existing buildings.
Peter also runs Warmhomes, a family building partnership. This has recently built a house in Exeter with fully filled 250mm cavity walls and is currently involved in the refurbishment of a derelict house in Plymouth using 100mm woodfibre external wall insulation.
